Artist Bio

The Janzen Boys, a folk roots trio from Winnipeg, Canada, began their musical journey in 2012 after moving home from Japan. What started as a casual busking venture at the Forks market quickly blossomed into a family band with a unique harmony-driven sound. After they won a showcase spot in the University of Winnipeg’s Uniter Fiver contest, their first non-street performance was at the iconic West End Cultural Centre. This momentum propelled their debut EP, Roads, into radio rotation across Manitoba and set the stage for their Western Canada Busking Roadie, which took them from Winnipeg to Kelowna.

In 2015, The Janzen Boys collaborated with producer JP Laurendeau to record Roads, featuring the musical prowess of Ariel Posen and Ryan Voth from The Bros. Landreth. Their distinct folk-country sound and family harmonies garnered them invitations to notable festivals, including Dauphin’s Country Fest, Festival du Voyageur, and Trout Forest Music Festival, sharing stages with acclaimed artists like Home Free, John Muirhead, and Joshua Hyslop.

After a successful showcase at the Manitoba Arts Network Emerging Artists series in 2018, demand for performances grew, leading them to record at Paintbox Studio with the Moonrise Music duo, Lloyd Peterson and Rusty Matyas. However, the pandemic paused their efforts. During this time, they hosted online concerts and showcased their production skills with a cover of Bruce Cockburn’s “Lovers in a Dangerous Time.”

As the pandemic came to an end and the band members reached adulthood, The Janzen Boys embraced their music careers with renewed focus. In the fall of 2022, they returned to Paintbox Studio to record four singles that marked a new chapter in their artistic evolution, with Mick and Simon stepping into more prominent roles.

In January 2023, Mick took a semester off university to concentrate on content creation and music marketing. This resulted in a substantial increase in their online following. After completing production on ten singles, The Janzen Boys released their debut full album, |2|, on December 31, 2023. The album’s success and demand for live performances allowed them to embark on their first-ever Canadian tour during the summer of 2024, featuring sold-out dates from the coast of BC to Ottawa, ON.

With a growing fan base of over 20,000 listeners on Spotify, 20,000 on Instagram, and 13,000 on Facebook, The Janzen Boys are committed to sharing their music and stories, bringing their folk roots sound to audiences everywhere.
