Beautiful, Casual, Down to Earth – Welcome to the Shuswap
Read all about us
The heart of the traditional territories of the Secwepemc, the “meeting of the waters”, the Shuswap is a place of gathering. We celebrate the pairing of meaningful experiences. Cycle to a vineyard or paint at the pub, paddle to the park, or hike to the hot spring. We live to explore. And every day with us means you’ll find a little more.
Our hosts and our guides, our chefs, brewmasters and vintners, our farmers, producers and shop owners look forward to welcoming you back. Immerse yourself in the stories told by our musicians, artists and actors, artisans and crafters. Meander our maps, our rivers and valleys, our mountains and meadows, our beaches, belvederes, parks and trails in a smart, safe and respectful way.
Call ahead
Our accommodators are keen to welcome you back but please book ahead of time. Private hotels, motels, BnBs, campgrounds and RV parks are open. Provincial park campsites are only available to BC residents this summer. The Shuswap is a popular destination and pre-booked accommodation is essential.
Pace yourself
We’re all keen to get out and about after a challenging few months. Pace yourself, take it slow, don’t try and pack it all into the same day. There’s plenty to see and do. Just take your time and enjoy it with less hustle and bustle.
Be patient
Our tourism providers have been working hard to provide goods and services in a safe and respectful manner whilst meeting health protocols. Things might have changed a little from your last visit. Just be patient. It’s worth the wait.
Take it outside
There’s no shortage of great outdoor spaces in the Shuswap. Consider it a healthy and safe option. Grab some takeout out or plan a picnic and visit a local park. Restaurants, bars and patios are open but at reduced capacity so get creative, have fun and try something new.
Wait your turn
Visitors are encouraged to make online reservations for attractions, amenities and activities. It reduces your wait time and everyone gets to do what they want when they want.
Keep a journal
If you’re new to the area, you’re going to see some great places. It’s always good to keep a journal of your Shuswap experience so you’ll know where to return next time and it never hurts to have a record of your travels in case you have concerns about infection reports.
Pack essentials
Bring the basics; a cooler for all the goodies, some folding chairs for the beach, PFDs if you’ll be on the water, prescriptions, sanitation supplies and reservation confirmations. While most parks, and trails, golf courses, wineries, farm stands and markets are fully operational, the modification means you’ll need to bring your own equipment and wash your hands before and after visiting.
Stay safe and healthy
Feeling a little under the weather? Best wait to feel your best before heading our way.
Health measures are in place at local businesses and amenities, including sanitation stations, reduced occupancy, social distancing and masks if the 2 metre distance cannot be maintained. There are limits on size of groups indoors and outdoors. As such, many public events have been cancelled in response to the health emergency. Consult local visitor centres or event listings for more information. Recent flooding also means some beaches and boat launches aren’t quite yet at their best. Practice water recreation safety and if you’re coming from another watershed, please clean and dry your boat to prevent the transmission of invasive water species.
Be kind
As Dr. Bonnie Henry has said, now is the time to be kind. A compliment and a kind word to one another goes a long way in making our summer more meaningful and more memorable.
