The Shuswap offers one of the provinces largest nordic ski centres, experiences annual snow packs between 1 and 3 metres, and is home to one of the largest loppets. There are a variety of x-c areas in the region, including the Larch Hills Nordic Area, Skmana Lake, Eagle River Nature trails and more…
Here’s a little information about some of the key feature x-c destinations in the Shuswap:
The Larch Hills cross-country ski area, is 20 km from Salmon Arm, has a 125 km trail network covering terrain in the 3500 to 4000 ft range, with about 43 km that are track set. The society maintains a chalet, cabin, and all the trails. There are no trail fees but donations are encouraged to help with expenses, and memberships are very reasonable and practical. The Society hosts a number of events throughout the ski season including Moonlight Lantern and Full Moon Skis, and of course, the renowned Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet, a fun, family-friendly event held on the 3rd Saturday each January. Eagle River Nature Trails (Malakwa)‚ multiple loops through old growth cedar along the Eagle River provide lovely deep winter solitude.
