Cyclists, rejoice! You've found Paradise!
Discover the Shuswap on a bike - at a delightfully human pace.
Cycle touring is a great way to experience the Shuswap landscape and culture, over a day, a week or longer. There’s a lifetime of discovery on our open roads.
Cyclists will find over 1,500 kilometres of quiet, scenic, paved backroads, perfect for relaxed or vigourous rides, for individuals or groups. For a quick jaunt, try any of our out-and-back or loop routes, from 20 to 100 kilometres in length. You’ll find great views, beaches, swimming, bird watching hot spots, and lots more along the way.
Looking for a multi-day adventure? Plan a themed tour and let your interests be your guide. Experience the Shuswap’s remarkable agriculture by visiting farms and farmers’ markets around the region. Orchards, dairies, greenhouses, ranches – all kinds of down-to-earth adventures are waiting for you, and they’re great for kids too. Or perhaps you’d prefer to indulge your palate and compare local flavours with a tasting tour through the Shuswap’s unique wineries and breweries.
See our suggested two-day itinerary, but remember, the possibilities are endless! For help planning your itinerary, pick up a copy of our Shuswap-North Okanagan Cycle Touring brochure, and find your own perfect combination among 35 incomparable routes.
Salmon Arm and Armstrong each host an annual community bike ride: "Bike For Your Life Century Ride" is held on the third Saturday in September from Salmon Arm: www.bikeforyourlife.com and the "Okanagan Shuswap Century Ride" is held on the last Sunday in May from Armstrong: www.oscr.ca
Most routes are ready to ride by mid-April if you dress for it. Cycling may extend to mid-November in some years. Traffic volume on some back roads may increase slightly during July and August. Local drivers are courteous to cyclists.
