Willy Gaw Quartet at The Handmade Shoppe - Salmon Arm
THE WILLY GAW QUARTET will perform during the Acoustic Avenue Concert Series at The Handmade Shoppe in Salmon Arm on April 22. The concert will be held at The Handmade Shoppe, 2090 10th Ave SW in the Old Canadian Tire building. This is Salmon Arm’s emerging venue for all of the lovers and listeners of great live music.
The Willy Gaw Quartet is Richard Owings on Violin, Bill Lockie on Stand-up Bass, Jordan Dick on Lead Guitar and Willy Gaw on Rhythm Guitar. Based out of Salmon Arm these four musicians have been playing together off and on for a few years now and what they play is Gypsy Jazz.
Inspired by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli and the Quintette of the Hot Club of France; who were the front runners of this genre in the 1930’s and more recently by Gonzalo Bergara, Stochelo Rosenberg and others, the band plays for the fun of it all.
The music is intoxicating, fast, rhythmic and constantly challenging. The kind of music you can dance to or sit back, tap your toes and get lost in.
Date: Saturday, April 22, 2017
Time: Show starts at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:00 pm
Place: The Handmade Shoppe
Contact: Tickets are $20 plus service fee of $1.50 on-line: https://acousticavenue.tickit.ca/events/2560-willy-gaw-quartet or at Acorn Music and The Handmade Shoppe
Music at the Maples - Sorrento
Music at the Maples is excited to have booked a few acts for spring.
Two of Vancouver Island's finest musicians have paired up this year as a dynamic duo! Luke Blu Guthrie and Brodie Lee Dawson have joined forces to push some big and beautiful sounds off the stage, backing each other up on the latest stylings of their original tunes.
Brodie has been touring for the past couple of years with her band She Could Be Trouble who were nominated twice for 'Group of the Year' - at the Vancouver Island Music Awards and the BCCMA's. Brodie Dawson took home 'Vocalist of the Year' at the 2014 Vancouver Island Music Awards and was nominated for Best Live Act at both 2014 and 2103 VIMA's. If you get a chance to take in one of her shows you'll know why. It’s her voice that jumps out at you. Hits you right where it counts, and seduces you with a bit of bluesy, funky, smoky overtone. Her songs are laced with truth and humour and so much soul, and they speak to your core. She is real and raw, and charming and silly, and by the end of the night you'll feel like you've known her forever.
Luke is a seasoned performer and well-loved on Vancouver Island and beyond. At a time when so many young musicians struggle to find an authentic representation of self in their music, the charismatic Luke Blu Guthrie is a beacon of originality. Deeply soulful, and passionately committed to creating and sharing his music, Luke Blu has devoted much of his life to his craft. Often armed with only an acoustic guitar, Guthrie has been an integral part of the Vancouver Island music scene for over a decade. He is widely respected for his versatility and skill as songwriter, vocalist and guitar player.
Together they are on fire!
Brodie and Luke are on a spring tour and Sorrento is lucky to have them. All tickets for this show are $20. Barb Loewen is once again supplying her delicious baking so bring a few extra dollars for cd’s and snacks.
