Pioneer Day

R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum located at 751 Highway 97 B is celebrating Pioneer Day on Sunday, July 8 with a community party!

You are invited to join the celebration and explore our settler’s stories, embrace our cultures and discover the mosaic beauty of our people.  The day will be full of activities and events themed around Salmon Arm’s history and its settlers.

Join us for the Grand Opening of “Can you dig it?  Shuswap mining history” and the “Salmon Arm’s Telephone Exchange” with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Montebello Museum at 10:00am. 

The day will be full of family fun!  Highlights include old fashion races and games like tug a war, three-legged and sack races and carnival midway games, face painting and wagon rides.  Visit Chelsea’s Petting Zoo which is always a favourite for the children.   Come dressed in your favourite vintage garb and enter the “Best Dressed” contest. 

Enjoy interactive exhibits with some of Salmon Arms historical characters like Mrs. McGuire at the General Store, Miss Halpenny in the Broadview School and Cyril Thomson at the Lester and Thomson Garage.  See demonstrations and hear stories from the Shuswap Pioneer Collectors Club, the Shuswap Spinners & Weavers, Jack Stead with his gun collection and Neil and his vintage radio collection and more!

The Salmon Arm Museum is also celebrating our 55th birthday with cake at 1:00pm on the deck of the Beemish Building for all who come. 

Tap your toes along to local musical entertainment at 10:00am from The Cliff Jumpers followed by Bruce Strachan at 12:00pm. 

Come early for a delicious pancake breakfast for $6.00, stay for BBQ lunch starting at $3.50 or visit Marjorie’s Tea Room for a special lunch feature for only $8.99.
