Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival

The 25th Annual Roots & Blues Festival will be held August 18th, 19th & 20th , 2017

Produced in the picturesque setting Shuswap Lake, Roots and Blues is a three-day event that takes place on the third weekend of every August.  From humble beginnings of stand alone folk shows in Salmon Arm community halls, Roots and Blues has grown into a major western Canadian outdoor event that has played host to patrons from all over western Canada and the Pacific North West. The festival has also hosted legends like Buddy Guy, Bruce Cockburn, Ian Tyson, Buffy Sainte- Marie, Mavis Staples, Arlo Guthrie, Serena Ryder, K'naan, Feist, and Taj Mahal who have wowed Roots and Blues audiences, as have artists who were on the cusp of becoming internationally acclaimed talents.

Daytime workshops are renowned for delivering high voltage performances with artists who were introduced backstage before becoming fast friends on Roots and Blues stages. The palpable enthusiasm and good time vibe of the performers becomes contagious not long after the festival gates open.

Produced by the not-for-profit Salmon Arm Folk Music Society, Roots and Blues has also been applauded for continuing to help inspire emerging artists from the region as well as presenting some of the province’s most respected musical ambassadors such as Colin James, Kiran Ahluwalia, and Jim Byrnes.

As recently as 2015, musicians from Salmon Arm and area found themselves sharing their songs and talents on workshop stages with established artists from across the country. While being mentored by these artists our homegrown musicians also confirmed to audiences and their peers that given the chance they can hold their own with some of the best in the creative world.

Twenty-four years and counting, not only the years, but also the ever expanding list of fans, volunteers, and friends of the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival.
